While the bar or bat mitzvah ceremony will, undoubtedly, take place at the synagogue of your choice, the party can be anywhere. The sky’s the limit with this choice, and it’s important for you to consider many points when picking the bar or bat mitzvah party location.
1. Logistics – If the party is going to be right after the ceremony, consider the distance you want to ask guests to drive. Don’t pick a location that’s an hour away from the synagogue and ask everyone to drive that distance. Keep it close and simple for everyone’s sake.
2. Budget – Obviously, you need to keep your budget in mind. Some people would rather spend more of their budget on the location, and spend less on decorations, food, clothes, and the like. Others would rather find a more casual location and save their money for out-of-this-world food. Consider your budget and your priorities when looking at sites.
3. All-Inclusive Versus Do-It-Yourself – There are many sites that will do everything for you. They have tables to offer, catering on the premises and even waiters to serve the food. Other locations just offer the four walls and you need to bring everything else. You have to decide how much you want to coordinate yourself, and how much you are willing to organize and balance. When you go to see sites, makes sure to ask directed questions about what’s included and what isn’t.
